Basic dog handling classes will be offered Wednesdays July 13 through Aug. 17 at the Schaghticoke Fairgrounds. Classes will emphasize beginning socialization, basic commands and having fun. Classes are open to all community residents from youth to adults and their dogs. All community residents, from youth through adults, and their dogs are welcome to participate.

This 5 week session costs $50 with discounted rates for Rensselaer County 4-H members. All dogs must be currently vaccinated against rabies, parvovirus, distemper and adenovirus; kennel cough vaccine is also strongly suggested.

Classes will begin at 6:30 p.m. Participants should come the first night with their dog, proof of vaccinations, a 6-foot leash and the dog’s favorite treats. There will need to be a minimum of 5 pre-registrants to offer the class.

Advance registration with the Cornell Cooperative Extension office of Rensselaer County is required; please call 272-4210. Those with special needs should indicate them at the time of registration.
