The Louisiana SPCA will hold a K-9 training class for youngsters ages 10 to 16 beginning next month.

Louisiana SPCAK9 training classes by the SPCA to be held in July at Jefferson Feed in Old Jefferson.

The three-week course will teach handlers and their dogs the basic of dog obedience such as praise, heel, sit and down. Also, tips will be given on how to have a well-socialized dog, the importance of pet identification and exercising your dog.

Class size is limited to 10 handlers and dogs. All dogs must have completed all vaccinations, including rabies.

The classes will be held at Jefferson Feed, Pet and Garden Center, 4421 Jefferson Highway, Old Jefferson, on Mondays and Thursdays from 10 to 11 a.m. The dates of the classes are July 11, 14, 18, 21, 25 and 28, and they will be taught by Ann Irwin.

A parent or guardian must remain in the training ring for the first class and must remain on premises during all other classes.
